About Walker Lumber

Walker Lumber is a California-based roof truss manufacturer serving builders, contractors, and developers across the western U.S. We specialize in custom truss systems built with premium Doug Fir lumber, efficient digital workflows, and precision manufacturing. We are expanding our design team and seeking a Remote Truss Designer who can also assist with office management and project coordination. This role blends hands-on technical design with organizational leadership — perfect for a detail-oriented, self-motivated professional who enjoys working independently.

What You'll Do

  • Design and engineer roof and floor trusses using TrueBuild® truss software (preferred) or other truss software (Alpine, Simpson).
  • Review architectural and structural plans to produce accurate layouts and production-ready truss drawings.
  • Verify structural compliance (ANSI/TPI-1, IBC, local codes).
  • Coordinate directly with sales, engineering, and production teams.
  • Prepare and manage submittals, permit packages, and revisions.
  • Track project schedules and communicate updates with clients and internal staff.
  • Maintain organized digital records and assist with office workflows (scheduling, reporting, and client communications).

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3+ years of roof/floor truss design experience.
  • Proficiency with TrueBuild® truss software, or experience in Alpine with the ability to adapt quickly.
  • Strong technical knowledge of structural loads, building codes, and wood framing systems.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines remotely.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in office or project coordination.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets, project tracking software, and document control.
